Maths PhD and former university lecturer offering tutoring across GCSE, A-Level and degree level, online or in person in Edinburgh

Joseph is probably the best teacher I've worked with. Having worked alongside him throughout the course of our respective PhDs at the University of Sheffield, I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact he has had on his students and their learning.

He excels at explaining mathematical concepts in clear and concise ways, making even the most challenging topics accessible and interesting. He has always established great working relationships with his students, and I know his students found him to be both approachable and supportive. In our second year at Sheffield together he was given the award for best postgraduate teacher, as voted for by the undergraduate student body.

Joseph is passionate about teaching and voluntarily took on many teaching roles during our time at Sheffield, including leading classes, marking, lecturing, and one-to-one supervision of undergraduate research projects. He always devoted a lot of time and attention to his preparations for these teaching activities. Whenever I needed a colleague to cover one of my own classes, Joseph was always the first person I asked, because I knew my students responded very well to his engaging teaching style.

I think Joseph’s skills, experience and attitude towards teaching make him exceptionally well-suited to this role, and I recommend him without hesitation.

Joseph has volunteered with Action Tutoring from 30/04/2025 to 18/06/2025. Action Tutoring provides volunteer tutors to work with pupils preparing for GCSE exams or Key Stage 2 SATs in schools across the country and Joseph has volunteered as a maths tutor for an hour a week at King Edward VII School, Sheffield.

Joseph supported two pupils and worked closely with them, devising lesson plans and activities, working to build both their subject knowledge as well as their confidence and study skills.

Joseph's help has been very much appreciated by the school and has provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to benefit from some intensive one to one support in preparation for their exams.

Joseph was a committed, reliable and enthusiastic volunteer, relating very well to those he came into contact with through the programme, including pupils, teachers and fellow tutors, and was a valuable volunteer both for the school and for our organisation.
