About Katherine
Despite a disadvantaged background I always knew I was interested in STEM subjects. My parents always supported this, even when I told strangers I wanted to work for NASA. My love of science led me to pursue A-levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths. This was followed by a part-time Open University degree, taking 7.5 years and concluding in a 2:1 BSc (Hons) Open. This degree was built from individual modules and covered content in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Astronomy, and Forensic Science. During my study with the OU I realised I was interested in microbes and disease, and decided to apply for medicine. I went on to study medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School achieving a distinction in my degree. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds are still severely under-represented in medicine and my passion for tutoring is built on a determination to encourage students to achieve their potential, regardless of their background. Medical degrees and OU degrees present a number of unique challenges and hence I also offer support sessions to help students navigate these courses.

I hope to provide a flexible approach to tutoring, starting where you are and working together to achieve your goals. All tutoring will be offered 1:1 but small groups may also be accommodated. Sessions will be offered as 1-2 hours but longer sessions may also be accommodated. Tutoring is appropriate for students who are studying GCSEs, A-levels, or Medicine. Support sessions can be provided for medical applications, interview preparation, surviving medical school, and surviving OU study. PowerPoints, diagrams, and notes may be provided but you will be encouraged to create your own. I have been tutoring in small groups throughout my medical degree and career so far as a doctor, both in person and online.
