About Tamanna

I'm a fourth-year medical student at the University of Edinburgh, and intercalated in neuroscience during my third year. I came out with A's in all seven of my National 5s and all five of my Highers, then took Advanced Higher Biology, Chemistry and Maths.
Outside of medicine I work as a scientific and surgical illustrator. I draw for neurosurgical and spinal surgeons, and my artwork was chosen for the cover of the British Journal of Neurosurgery in 2026. I've spent two summers in cancer biology labs in Edinburgh and Glasgow: one on glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour, and one on how DNA is folded and packed inside the nucleus.
I've spent the last few years teaching in one form or another, as President of the Edinburgh Student Anatomical Society I organised anatomy teaching sessions, OSCE practice and clinical anatomy tutorials for medical students, and I delivered a neuroanatomy session to over 100 high school students with the Edinburgh University Neurological Society, which was nominated for event of the year. I've also run academic support and exam preparation events as the elected Medical School Representative, and helped school students prepare for medical school interviews with Medic Insight.
Teaching brings me great joy and satisfaction, and I would love the opportunity to help you reach your potential.

About the lesson

I teach Biology to National 5 and Higher students in one-hour lessons, built around the SQA course and around where you're actually struggling.
Each lesson runs from a PowerPoint I prepare in advance, so you leave with clear slides to revise from afterwards. I teach heavily through diagrams and illustration — I'm a scientific and surgical illustrator, and won a cover competition award for a neurosurgical journal. I aim to teach for understanding rather than memorisation.
I also teach using question banks and past paper questions, and show how marks are awarded, which is often the difference between an A and a B.
Before we start, I'll personalise the lessons to your needs: what you find hardest, and the grade you're aiming for.
I have teaching experience leading the organisation of anatomy and OSCE teaching sessions for medical students at medical school.
