About Lucille

I have been teaching ESL since earning my M.A. in Applied Linguistics/Teaching English as a Second Language at University of South Florida in 1991. I've been tutoring online since before the beginning of the pandemic, but now I work exclusively online, individually or with small groups. I specialize in accent reduction and have worked with students from China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, Italy, Spain, France, Brazil, Ukraine, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Saudi Arabia.

About the lesson

My teaching method is based on teaching my students a variant of the International Phonetic Alphabet that I was taught in graduate school. I then write in phonetics all of the mispronounced words that they produce, so that they can practice them between classes. I also use a large number of worksheets that I have developed through the years to increase fluency, correct syllable stress, and other important components of native-like speech. Students are encouraged to supply me with words they are having difficulty with from their areas of study or work.
