About Riley

I am a Chemistry tutor with an MPhil in Chemistry and over four years of teaching experience. I take a holistic, interdisciplinary approach that connects chemistry with the world of art and cultural heritage. My lessons often explore how pigments were made, how materials age, and how environmental factors affect artworks over time. I guide students through chemical methods used to study paintings, sculptures, and historical objects. Techniques like spectroscopy, microscopy, and chromatography are part of my regular teaching. I enjoy using real historical art pieces as examples to show how science reveals hidden stories. Ethical considerations in restoration are always discussed with care. I want learners to understand not only what we can fix, but also what we should preserve respectfully. I work with art history students, conservation trainees, and anyone curious about the science behind art preservation. Many learners appreciate the mix of scientific depth and cultural meaning. My sessions are open, engaging, and supportive. I encourage curiosity and thoughtful discussion. Together, we explore how chemistry protects creativity across centuries. About the lesson

My teaching approach is relaxed, practical, and focused on real applications of chemistry. I help students connect theory to actual laboratory work. Analytical chemistry is a major part of my method, and I guide learners through key tools like spectroscopy, including NMR, IR, and UV-Vis. I also teach chromatography and explain how techniques like HPLC and GC are used in research and industry. Quantitative analysis is taught step-by-step so students gain confidence in calculations and data interpretation.
I make instrumental analysis easy to understand through simple examples. Every session encourages questions and open discussion. Complex concepts are broken into small, clear ideas. I support students in building strong laboratory skills through guided explanations. Learners from genetics and microbiology backgrounds also receive help in understanding chem-based lab techniques. This creates a smooth link between chemical principles and biological work.
My lessons aim to boost confidence, accuracy, and curiosity. I always support students in excelling and reaching their full potential. Each session is designed to make chemistry meaningful, useful, and connected to your scientific goals.
