About Heather

Hello! My name is Heather, and I am a multi-instrumentalist musician, singer-songwriter, and music teacher from Brighton, UK. I've been playing for over twenty years - mostly piano and violin, but I can play a bit of guitar, bass, and harp too!

I have a Bachelors in Music from Durham University, and a wealth of experience in multiple genres: from classical, to pop, orchestral, indie, to experimental.

Ultimately, I am incredible passionate about music and its power to transform people - and love sharing that with others as a music teacher. I offer online lessons in Piano / Keyboard, Music Theory, and Songwriting. If you are local to me in Portslade, Brighton, I can offer these lessons from my home too.

About the lesson

Do you want to learn the fundamentals of music theory, and master the language of music?

Hi! My name is Heather, I am a music graduate (Durham University), music teacher, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter.

Having a strong understanding of music theory has helped me become a better performer and songwriter. So, if you're looking to improve your playing - increase your understanding of music - or make your own music, then my music theory lessons are for you.

My lessons are great for beginner, intermediate, or experienced - I am an adaptable teacher and can work with you to create an appropriate learning plan for you.

It is important to me that lessons are engaging, and productive - I acknowledge that like any theoretical subject, learning can sometimes feel quite dry! So, I spend time getting to know you, your learning style, and your musical tastes - we will use pieces you know and love as practical examples of how music theory works.
This makes the knowledge easier to digest, and certainly more fun in the process!

Things we can cover include: keys, scales, and modes / interval and ear training / chord structures / song analysis / rhythm, texture, timbre / and more.

If you are an instrumentalist who are wanting to pass their ABRSM Grade 5 Theory examination - this is a goal I can also help you towards.
