About Colan
I’m a native English speaker from South Africa, currently based in Twizel, New Zealand. I love working with people and helping them build confidence in their learning. Outside of teaching, I’m passionate about nature, sustainability, and the outdoors, and I enjoy hiking, gardening, cooking and am starting to learn Italian!

My approach is student-focused and adaptable. I tailor each lesson to your goals, whether that’s improving conversational confidence, mastering grammar, or understanding complex biology concepts. I emphasize clear explanations, practical examples, and active participation to keep lessons engaging and effective.
Lessons are typically 30-60 minutes, but I’m flexible depending on your needs.
I hold a PhD in conservation genetics and have experience teaching and mentoring university students, which has given me strong skills in explaining difficult material clearly.
My lessons are suitable for a wide range of learners—from school students to university level, as well as adult learners looking to improve their English or deepen their understanding of biology.
