About Mariana

I am Portuguese-Brazilian - born in Portugal, but brought up partly in Brazil, and Portuguese is my native language.

My education started in Portuguese, so I am not only confident in my speaking abilities but also in my writing skills as I have learned grammar and spelling in Portugal.

I have completed the Portuguese GCSE and A-level qualifications, so I can offer help with both - despite focusing more on the A-level specification.

I am eager to help you achieve the grade you deserve to continue your Portuguese-speaking journey!

About the lesson

With my main focus being on A-level Portuguese, which is usually taken as an extra A-level, my lessons will be as concise as possible and filled with exam techniques that will improve not only your performance in exams but also enhance your ability to utilise more articulate language.

The works I will be making lessons on will be the film “Que Horas Ela Volta?”, by the great Brazilian director Anna Muylaert and featuring the amazing Regina Casé, and the book “Capitães da Areia”, written by Jorge Amado in the late 1930s, but maintains a very updated perspective of timeless social issues. However, if you wish to study other works which are part of the curriculum, I would be able to find ways to accommodate your needs.

I will go through past papers and help you with any tricky grammar and/or vocabulary. I will also give you tips on exam techniques so you can master every question no matter how difficult it is. I will not be focusing on grammar unless you start struggling with it as most of the grammar can be learned through exposure to the language and copying structures used by other speakers.
