• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  Tamil is one of the ancient languages in the world. I feel deeply connected with my native language because it is not just a subject. It carries a rich history, culture, literature, and identity. My interest in Tamil developed through my own exposure to the language, especially through reading, speaking, and learning about Tamil literature and traditions from my school days. Over time, I became interested not only in learning Tamil myself but also in understanding how to make the language easier and more enjoyable for others to learn. This is what encouraged me to pursue Tamil tutoring and as a writer.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach, and why?

  My biggest motivation is the satisfaction of helping someone to understand something that they initially found difficult. Sharing knowledge with others always makes me happy. I enjoy seeing a student's confidence grow when they are finally able to read a sentence, speak in Tamil, or understand something they previously struggled with. I also believe that teaching Tamil is a meaningful way of helping the younger generation stay connected to the language and culture. For me, teaching is not simply about completing a lesson; it is about making a positive difference in a student's learning journey and life skills.

• How does your work help society?

  As a Tamil tutor, I believe I contribute by helping preserve and pass on the Tamil language. Language is an important part of culture and identity, and teaching it helps ensure that it continues to be spoken and understood by future generations. I also help students develop communication skills and confidence, which can benefit them in their education, relationships, and everyday lives. Even though private tutoring may seem like a small contribution, I believe educating one student at a time can create a wider impact. Apart from teaching a subject, language empowering the younger generation and the society through sharing few basic things to follow for a simple, kind and successful life.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of and why?

  One of my role models would be Avvaiyar, because of her contribution to Tamil literature and education. Her simple yet meaningful teachings have influenced generations of Tamil speakers. I admire the way she used language to communicate valuable lessons in a way that people could understand and remember. As a tutor, I hope to follow that principle making learning simple, meaningful, and useful for my students.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside teaching, I enjoy reading Tamil literature and writing stories & articles. I also like spending time with family and friends, exploring new places, and learning new things. I believe having interests outside teaching helps me stay refreshed and brings new ideas and perspectives into my lessons. I particularly enjoy activities that allow me to stay connected with Tamil language and culture. Attending Tamil literature meetings and gatherings often makes me busy and active.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  One experience that I particularly value is seeing a student who was initially hesitant to speak Tamil gradually become more confident. At the beginning, the student was worried about making mistakes and preferred not to speak. Instead of correcting every mistake immediately, I encouraged them to keep trying and created a comfortable environment where mistakes were treated as part of learning. Over time, they began speaking more freely and confidently. That experience reminded me that sometimes a teacher's most important role is not just teaching the subject, but giving a student the confidence to believe that they can learn. Not only this, In academics also so many students even if they are non native tamil speakers score more in their exams in a short notice.
