About Lyss
I am a dedicated and patient math tutor who focuses on helping students build confidence and understanding, not just correct answers. My teaching approach is structured, supportive, and adaptable to each student’s learning style. I believe that math becomes less intimidating when concepts are explained clearly and at a pace that feels manageable. Each lesson is thoughtfully planned and typically begins with identifying the student’s current goals or challenges. My approach as a tutor is focused on patience, clarity, and confidence-building. I believe math becomes easier when students feel comfortable asking questions and aren’t rushed. A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in to see what the student is currently working on or struggling with. From there, I review the concept, walk through examples together, and then let the student try problems with guidance. I adjust the pace based on the student’s needs and end each session by reviewing what we covered and identifying what to practice next.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my supportive and understanding teaching style. As a college student, I understand how stressful school can feel, especially when math doesn’t come easily. I focus on helping students truly understand the “why” behind problems instead of just memorizing steps. I aim to create a calm, judgment-free space where learning feels manageable.
My lessons are best for middle school and high school students, especially those taking general math, pre-algebra, algebra, or geometry. I also support students who feel anxious about math, need homework help, or benefit from slower, structured explanations.
