About Struan
Growing up in the Cairngorms National Park sparked my lifelong passion for geography, the environment, and the outdoors. Alongside holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, I currently work in sustainable agriculture and outdoor leadership, allowing me to apply geography in real, meaningful contexts every day. This blend of teaching expertise and hands-on environmental experience brings lessons to life and helps students see the relevance of geography beyond exams. Tutoring allows me to continue developing my teaching practice while sharing my enthusiasm for geography with the next generation of geographers—helping them build confidence, curiosity, and success in the subject.

My PGDE training included 18 weeks of full-time classroom teaching alongside 18 weeks of in-depth pedagogical study. This has equipped me with the skills to break complex geographical concepts into manageable chunks, pitch work at the right level of challenge, and adapt lessons to suit different learning styles. Each lesson (typically 1–2 hours) is carefully structured around clear learning intentions and success criteria, with regular checks for understanding to ensure real progress. We will identify and target individual weak areas, build confidence in key skills, and work strategically towards SQA assessment objectives and course targets. Lessons balance clear content delivery with exam-style practice questions, tailored to the learner’s level and the point they are at in the school year. I offer tutoring for all secondary year groups and across SQA Geography qualifications, with a strong focus on helping students achieve their full potential.
