About James
My background is in Geoscience - I am particularly interested in volcanoes, among other natural hazards, and how they impact human society, and, in turn, how society can learn to live with these natural risks. I have spent a lot of my life either learning or doing research in a university setting - in doing so, I have developed my teaching skills. I find physics to be a fascinating and essential part of understanding the natural world and I enjoy deeply sharing some of my enthusiasm for the subject through my teaching.

I am an approachable, friendly, and adaptable tutor - I really enjoy getting to know students to understand their preferred learning style and modifying my approach accordingly. The lessons I offer range from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on preference. I have worked as a private tutor for a variety of individuals, from early secondary school, sixth form, through to undergraduate. Furthermore, I spent six years working part-time as an associate tutor at a UK university on undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In terms of qualifications, I did Physics at both GCSE and A level, and then went on to achieve a Masters in a physics-related discipline (Geophysical Hazards).
