About JanMell

I'm JanMell, a PhD degree holder in Mechanical Engineering from Trinity College Dublin based in Cork City. I am also a chemical engineer, and has master's in Materials Science, this makes me better positioned to teach Maths and Chemistry. I have more than ten years of experience in teaching and tutoring high school including junior cert and leaving cert, and college level students. I worked as a school teacher for five years teaching Chemistry and four years as a university lecturer in Engineering Sciences. Thus I am trained formally in pedagogy which guides my personalised, learner-focused teaching style. My years as a schoolteacher and university lecturer also means I have a library of resources and past exams I can use to supplement my client's learning during the grinds. I now work as an engineer in medical devices industry.

About the lesson

I am proficient in explaining complex concepts to make them easily comprehensible by use of analogies that are commonly encountered in everyday life. I am very much into knowing how formulas came to be and understanding what is the physical meaning of quantities rather than just memorizing them. I also inject humor into my lessons so it would not become so boring! I do not like to sacrifice rigor in learning the hard sciences but I am easy-going and friendly and very patient.
