About Christian
As being born & raised in Cork I have an understanding of how the young mind navigates post-primary education and how to relate well with students navigating through their leaving certificate experience. I completed an undergraduate Analytical Chemistry with Quality Assurance degree in MTU, Cork. A rewarding degree focused on the analytical method, spectroscopy and industrial chemistry which benefits well from the large pharmaceutical industry in Cork. I am currently in the second year of my PhD in MTU and Tyndall National Institute, where I am developing a chemical sensor for the early and non-invasive detection of biological illnesses such as diabetes and lung cancer. My project involves developing chemical surface functionalization methods for enhancing a new type of spectroscopy which takes place on a silicon chip which fits in the palm of your hand. As part of my PhD I host and supervise undergraduate chemistry labs for chemistry and biology students at MTU. As such I have experience with helping those who have both a deep adoration of the subject and those who are taking the module only as a requirement. I enjoy teaching a lot, as it feels very rewarding, especially to help those that struggle with Chemistry.

I bring my experience as a part-time casual lecturer/lab supervisor at MTU, facilitating experimental labs to 40 students per semester. My aim for leaving certificate students at ordinary and higher-level is to help facilitate an appreciation of chemistry and understanding of the basic scientific terminology, principles, calculations and methods needed to excel at the subject. Lessons will follow the leaving certificate syllabus as outlined from the Dept. of Education with special focus given to topics requiring extra support from the student.
