About Sophia
I am an undergraduate pre-medical physiology student at the University of Arizona. I preceptor for Freshman biology lab and have tutored students ages 8-20 in Biology and Chemistry. My first tutoring job was a hot-tempered girl who drew attention for shanking a classmate with a screwdriver. By the time our tutoring sessions ceased, she was socially-adapted and well versed in middle-school geometry and biology. She was eight years old.

I am a hardworking Alaskan girl, and I love active learning. I work to lead students to conceptual understanding through guiding questions, physical models, and entertaining metaphors. At the end of the day, I strive for each of my students to be able to visualize the concepts we go over and apply them to new situations. I think education should be fun. If a student can't sit still, we learn outside. If a student is frustrated by the material, we approach the ideas from a completely new angle. If a student wants to sit down in a dark room and work on memorization, that's fine too.
