About Raiza

One of my favorite parts of university has been helping classmates prepare for exams and hearing them suddenly say,

"Wait... I get it now."

That's why I decided to start tutoring.

I'm currently completing a Master of Pharmaceutical Science at Monash University after graduating in Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering. Biology has been at the center of my studies for years, and somewhere along the way I realized I enjoyed explaining it just as much as learning it.

I'm naturally curious, so I tend to ask a lot of "why?" questions myself. I like understanding how things work instead of memorizing definitions or biological pathways, and that's the approach I bring into my lessons too.

By the time exams come around, I'm usually one of the people classmates message when they're stuck on a difficult biology topic. Sometimes all someone needs is a different explanation, a bit more patience, or the chance to ask the question they were too embarrassed to ask in class.

I know that asking for help can feel intimidating, especially when you've convinced yourself you're "just not good" at a subject. I never want my lessons to feel like that. Students should feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, changing their minds and taking the time they need to understand something properly. There's no pressure to get everything right the first time.

Outside university, I enjoy exploring Melbourne, trying new cafés, watching documentaries and spending time with family and friends. I think learning works best when people feel relaxed, supported and comfortable, and that's exactly the kind of environment I try to create in every lesson.

Whether you're aiming for top marks, preparing for VCE Biology or simply hoping biology feels a little less overwhelming, I'd love to help you get there.

"I'm just bad at biology."

I've heard that far more often than,

"I don't understand photosynthesis."

I don't think most students actually dislike biology. They're usually just overwhelmed by how much there seems to be to remember.

That was never how biology made sense to me.

The more I studied it, the more I realized everything links together. One topic leads into the next. Once those connections start making sense, the subject becomes a lot less about memorizing hundreds of facts and a lot more about understanding what's actually happening.

I'm currently studying a Master of Pharmaceutical Science at Monash University after completing a degree in Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering, so biology has been part of my life for quite a while now. Around exam time, I somehow became one of the people classmates would message whenever they were stuck on a biology topic. We'd usually end up with a notebook full of diagrams, arrows and random scribbles until everything finally started making sense.

That's probably how I'd describe my lessons too. They're relaxed and conversational. We'll work through school content, homework or revision together, and if we need to spend fifteen minutes on one diagram because that's what's causing the confusion, that's completely fine. I'd much rather do that than rush through five chapters.

I teach online and work with students from Years 1–12. Some students come because they're aiming for top marks. Others just want biology to stop feeling so confusing. Both are perfectly good reasons to start.
