About Derek
I have been giving private tutoring lessons in both history and English as a second language over the last nine years. Three of those years were spent formally teaching English as a second language and both American and European history at the Hebei Finance University in Baoding, China.

I am an outgoing and confident teacher. I believe that the best way to learn history is not to simply memorize the dates and names, but rather to open a students mind to a new way of thinking. I try and show my students how history and historical events have influenced everything around us today. In a classroom or in a one on one tutoring position, I accomplish this with a number of sources like: power point presentations, articles, online material, and textbooks.
