About Kate

I am a Chemistry tutor with more than 3 years of academic teaching and lab assistance experience, combined with an MSc in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry. My focus is analytical chemistry, and I help students develop skills that make instrumental chemistry understandable and exciting. I guide learners through chromatography, helping them understand separation methods, elution orders, gradient conditions, and retention behaviour. I also love teaching spectroscopy, especially NMR, IR, and UV–Vis, where students learn how molecular structure reveals itself through patterns and signals. With titrations, I focus on precision, endpoint detection, indicator selection, and equipment confidence. My teaching extends beyond technique and moves into experimental design, teaching learners how to plan, control variables, and document work properly. Data analysis is a major part of my support, helping students interpret results, construct calibration curves, identify uncertainty, and consider statistical reliability. I work with chemistry lab students who want stronger skill sets, whether they are building basic pipetting confidence or working through advanced method development. I also support students preparing for research or quality assurance positions, helping them understand reproducibility, contamination prevention, and reporting structure. My lessons are a mix of theory, problem-solving, real-world context, and technique explanation. I believe analytical chemistry is a language of patterns and precision, and I enjoy teaching students how to read that language clearly. Watching learners grow confident in measurement and analysis brings real happiness to my teaching life. Chemistry becomes more joyful when data tells a meaningful story.

The teaching methodology combines structured case studies with deep analytical review. Focus areas include macromolecules, metabolic pathways, enzyme kinetics, and broader biochemistry topics. Students learn to dissect chemical reactions, understand molecular structures, and predict enzymatic behaviour. Case studies link theory to real biological systems, making lessons practical and engaging. Zoologists and botanists are provided with examples relevant to their fields, improving application skills. Lessons emphasise logical reasoning, stepwise problem-solving, and critical analysis. Analytical reviews identify learning gaps and reinforce difficult concepts. Students practise interpreting biochemical data, evaluating pathways, and predicting outcomes. Personalised feedback guides learners towards academic excellence in biological chemistry. Sessions integrate theory and practice to strengthen understanding of complex processes. Learning becomes interactive, clear, and applicable. The approach ensures that students build confidence and mastery in the chemical processes of life. Lessons foster curiosity, comprehension, and problem-solving ability in biochemistry.
