About Matthew

My name is Matthew and I am a Dublin-based musician, educator and composer with an ability to play and teach guitar, bass and ukulele in a diverse range of styles from pop, rock, jazz and many more. I obtained a first class honors in my Bachelor of Arts degree in 'Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance' from DCU in 2023. Since then I have gone on to hone my craft as a musician and educator. I have taught extensively over the past 4 years with many students from all ages and a diverse range of styles. I have also played a part in many groups and projects as a leader and sideman such as the Matt O’Connell quartet, Tom Maxwell Organ trio and ‘Blue Notes’ featuring highly acclaimed Irish jazz artist Ronan Guilfoyle. I was a finalist for the Young Irish Jazz Musician 2022 and was awarded the Maggys Farm award by the DCU Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance Department in 2023.

About the lesson

My lessons are always centered around your goals and aspirations as a musician. I am a very patient teacher and will always provide encouragement and support. I teach a broad range of skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced players. Whether you want to master the guitar's fundamentals such as open chords and rhythm playing, or explore advanced techniques like in-depth fretboard visualization, I can guide you through every stage of your development. My lessons often include songs that will greatly improve your playing, but I’m always happy to focus on any tunes you’d like to learn. Your musical interests shape the direction of the sessions, ensuring that your learning experience is both enjoyable and rewarding.
