About Charlotte
I am a professional musician. I have Grade 8 qualifications in both piano and trombone, and have toured and played trombone professionally for the last ten years. My speciality is reggae, and through that genre, I have worked with many different artists such as Hollie Cook, Tippa Irie, Susan Cadogan, Winston Francis, Prince Fatty, touring all over the UK and Europe. I have played in many different bands though covering a range of genres from jazz to funk, soul and Afrobeat. I have also worked with STOMP, as part of their sister show The Lost& Found Orchestra, performing in Paris & Russia. These have been amongst my biggest shows. Others include performing with Hollie Cook at The Stone Roses reunion gig at Heaton Park, in front of 75,000 people. With the ParaOrchestra I played at the closing ceremony of the Paralympics. Although I didn’t do music to degree level, I constantly work on my music training. I sometimes have lessons with Mark Bassey, a well respected jazz trombonist who teaches at Trinity College, among other places. Most recently, I did a jazz masterclass with Keyon Harrold (jazz trumpeter) when he played at The Brighton Jazz Festival. My origins are in classical music, so my skills cover reading and music theory. With the reggae work, everything I do is by ear, so I can help you improve in both of these areas. I have extensive experience in teaching music. I started one-to-one teaching when I was about 17 years old (piano at that time). Over the years I have taught trombone and piano to a wide range of people. Through Brighton & Hove Council, I taught entire primary school classes (a programme called Soundmakers), going out as a pair, and creating music with children without using any notation. Half of them would be playing trombone and trumpet, the other half on drums. It was wonderfully chaotic and a great chance for the children to learn about groove, feel and rhythm. I worked for many years for a music charity called Rhythmix. We delivered music workshops to children who wouldn’t otherwise access music education through mainstream delivery. Many of the sessions I ran were with children with SEND. I was a key tutor in the UP Orchestra (Unlimited Potential), an orchestra for young people with SEND put together by Surrey Arts. In 2015, we performed at the Royal Albert Hall.

Encouraging and supportive tuition from a patient teacher with experience teaching a wide range of abilities, in a wide range of settings, and with pupils with SEND. Your first lesson is free. This is a great chance to meet each other, and to convey exactly what you want from your lessons. I can tailor our lessons to suit your needs exactly. If I think I can’t help you achieve your goals, I will let you know. Why not meet a couple of tutors and see who you ‘click’ with? I am comfortable teaching all ages, and most levels. If you’re keen to work through exams, I can help you with that. If you’d rather play by ear and learn tunes you love, we can do that. Either way I’ll help with technique, and make it enjoyable so you want to play more and more! I have a 2yo, so I can teach while she’s at nursery. At the moment, this is Mondays and Thursdays all day. I may be able to sort childcare for other times. Please do make contact and I'll see what I can do.

Charlotte is an incredible teacher with an impressive ability to find new and creative ways to challenge how you think and perform. She’s amazing at teaching at both beginner and advanced levels in various instruments and skills. She approaches each activity with a new and fresh perspective.
We are parents of Charlotte. She is a good listener and easily establishes rapport with people. She has a gentle manner and has long experience of teaching trombone and piano.
Most importantly, Charlotte is very patient. If you make a
mistake, she will correct you without being critical. She is non-judgemental and not critical. She is also a good listener Also, in my case, we have similar interests in music.View more recommendations
