About Jennifer
My name is Jenny, and I am a trainee anaesthetist. I am a dedicated doctor, avid rock climber, and passionate teacher. Following completion of the International Baccalaureate, I attended the University of Oxford to read Medicine.
Academic highlights of my university life included several awards from Brasenose College culminating in receiving "Open exhibition status" (honours). I received numerous merits for exam achievements in the later clinical years, and passed the BMBCh with Distinction.
Outside of studying, I enjoyed positions as social secretary for the Oxford University Medical Society, and several years on the Mountaineering Club committee organising everything from socials and competitions to adventurous trips in far flung places.
Since finishing medical school I have completed an academic foundation programme in Sheffield, during which time I have worked on numerous research projects. At a postgraduate level, I have completed the part 1 MRCP exam with a score in the top 5%, and am working towards the part 2 examination.
I am keen to help medical students learn and progress after what may not have been an optimal year due to the pandemic. Anything I can do to help prepare for examinations, foundation training, and beyond: I am happy to help.
I am also keen to help those aspiring to attend medical school, including to Oxbridge. I have personally undergone the UKCAT, BMAT, and Oxford interviews, as well as receiving interviews and offers from 3 other UK medical schools. Having attended a state school until the age of 16, and having never met anyone who attended Oxbridge until my 6th form years, I know what it feels like to be introduced to a somewhat "alien" world! I can help you on how to approach and prepare for university applications for medical school, and provide interview practice.

Which teaching approach I use depends a lot on what the learner needs to achieve – for example, is it being able to describe how different physiological systems behave or is it the specifics of a disease, its treatment and complications that needs to be mastered? I think it’s really useful to know what the curriculum requires of the learner, and what will be expected of them in the future so that we can have some goals to aim at.
In previous years I have set homework and extra reading to be done between sessions, making it a bit more like my personal experiences of Oxford tutorials. I’m more than happy to do this, or we can keep the work strictly to within our sessions. I like to know what does and doesn’t work for each student and their learning style, and I really appreciate and will act upon any feedback!
In terms of experience, I have tutored students in a variety of roles and formats over the last 13 years. I have taught secondary education to classrooms in India, provided full-time 1:1 tuition as a private summer tutor for secondary and A-level students, coached medical students through OSCE examinations, and have been formally involved in Sheffield University's medical school as a quality assurance officer for practical medical exams, as an examination marker for written papers, as a mock interviewer for foundation doctor interviews, and have assisted in the provision of simulation teaching for medical and nursing students. I have received special thanks from the University for my contribution to medical student teaching. Outside of medicine, I am a qualified climbing instructor and have instructed many adult and children's climbing groups.
