About Luke
Hi! I'm Luke. I'm 28, currently living in Solihull and working as a Science teacher at Henley in Arden School. I'm offering science tuition from primary to GCSE. I have been teaching for 5 years and delivered over 1,000 lessons to mixed ability classes of students. My academic background consists of a 1st class degree in Sport Science from the University of Winchester, I then went on to complete my teacher training with Teach SouthEast, being graded as an outstanding teacher in my final assessment.
What improvement can you expect to see?
On average my students improve by about 2-3 grades from their predicted grade, depending on the length of time I have with them and several other factors.
What can you expect from me?
I value every single one of my students. I want them to succeed. So, tutoring requires more than just imparting knowledge, it's about making sure the surrounding factors are in order. The knowledge, mindset and organisation need to work together in harmony to achieve one's best result. So you can expect to see me go above and beyond to enable them to do their best. This can mean doing overtime, or helping with quick impromptu questions over text.
My passion for teaching comes from my enjoyment of seeing young people make progress. Over my 5 years of teaching experience, I have built my routines and subject knowledge in my respective subjects, helping students to achieve their dreams. My practice in the classroom gives me an abundance of confidence when tutoring.

What can I expect in the first lesson?
The first lesson is aimed at gauging the strengths and weaknesses of the student. I usually ask a few questions and set a small assessment covering multiple areas of the curriculum. I also ask students to send me any recent results/papers to help me speed this process up.
What can I expect from a typical lesson?
My lessons will typically commence with a starter activity which targets a random part of the curriculum. The activity helps me to continually update the students' tracking profile on what topics they are succeeding at and what they need more work on. After this, I usually focus on a specific topic which needs work. This will involve a period of teaching followed by a period of practice. If there is time, this process can be repeated for more topics. At the end of the lesson, we reflect on what we covered and set homework to solidify learning.
My Teaching Experience
I have been a qualified secondary school teacher for 5 years, honing my subject knowledge in GCSE Biology and English. I have a vast range of experience teaching mixed ability learners, therefore allowing me to tailor lessons to meet learners' needs. My teaching style is to teach to the top and support where necessary, through questioning and linking scientific concepts to everyday life. My lessons are pacy, allowing students to make mistakes in a safe learning environment. I believe making the curriculum come to life is the key to winning students over and getting them engaged.
