About Harold
Although I have been a research scientist for almost 50 years, one of my ongoing interests is to impart enough knowledge (both in facts and how to judge the validity of those facts) so that one may make informed decisions about how science impacts society.

Science is driven by observation, hypothesis, experimentation, and theory. Hypotheses and theories are NOT guesses. There must be a reason for every hypothesis; most often based on the observations and previous knowledge. Theories are statements that currently fit the observable experimental (or historical in the case of paleontology) data. When they cease to do so, they are modified. , I tend to use a Socratic style. This means that I will often challenge your statements with further questions, or at the least, demand that you give reasons. The most frequent word you will see from me is “WHY?
I have much experience teaching non-science majors and educating the general adult population (especially high school teachers) about recombinant DNA technology and genetic engineering.
