About Sydney
I am a music teacher trained in classical and jazz styles with a music degree from the City University of New York. I am primarily a vocalist, having been singing more or less my whole life, and have the most experience performing pop/rock and jazz. I also play guitar and piano, write music, have some (emphasis on some) music production skills, and am knowledgeable about music theory.
Aside from music, I have a background in psychology, with both a bachelor's and master's degree in clinical psychology. I have extensive work experience within health and social care, including working with young people with mental health difficulties. I am very interested in exploring the use of music engagement as a wellbeing tool, and aim to promote this within my students as well. I hope to make music accessible and enjoyable to all, because we all have the ability to make and benefit from music!

I have experience teaching all ages and levels, and have mostly taught beginners (children and adults) or those returning to music later in life. I am well-versed in different styles and my priority is helping you sing how you want to sing, what you want to sing, and in a way that enhances your natural voice, while supporting you to explore new approaches and musical styles. I like to use a variety of methods depending on the comfortability and needs of the student and am always learning new techniques based on what my students are working on. I also like to incorporate ear training and some music theory into my lessons, as I believe building musicianship skills gives you a lot of flexibility as a singer and a stronger command of your voice.
Your first lesson will typically involve learning about the breath, doing some vocal warm-ups, and working with a short excerpt of a song you like (or would like) to sing. We will also discuss any past experience you have with singing and your goals for lessons. I am certified in Vocal Health First Aid, so within the first few lessons I will likely do some quick assessments to see how you are using your voice and if there are ways you may use it more safely.
I have worked with many students (children and adults alike) who have performance anxiety or are neurodivergent. I will always do my best to go at your (or your child's) pace and remain adaptable and responsive. Ultimately singing should be fun and build confidence, which is what I want for all my students!

My teenage daughter has been having singing lessons with Sydney for four months so far and really enjoys each session. Sydney is friendly, encouraging and professional. She took time to understand my daughter’s goals and structures her lessons to develop different aspects of her voice. She suggests suitable songs for my daughter’s voice and goals and even provided tools to support practice between lessons, such as guide and warm-up tracks. I fully recommend Sydney to anyone looking to develop their voice.
Our 11 year old daughter has been taking lessons from Sydney for a few months now & has really enjoyed it. Sydney is great with her - professional & engaging. Our daughter wanted to learn more contemporary/pop music vs musicals, opera, etc and Sydney is very in touch with current music. We definitely recommended her!
Sydney is a great person and a driven and fair teacher. She’s very organized and patient, with a strong love for music that’s contagious. And that voice, wow!
Sydney is a great teacher! She has a lot of experience and knows how to explain things really well.
She found water from a rock in my signing!
