About Curtis

Retired Navy Officer and college instructor with extensive studies in college-level history. Have written dozens of research papers, historical article and have tutored high school and college level students both in person and online. I specialize in U.S. Civil War and pre-Columbian history.

About the lesson

History is more than just dates and events. It is about connections, trends, causes and effects. Take the U.S. Civil War, for example. Why was the Battle of Shiloh during the early stages of the war between the states so important? The battle with its thousands of casualties was the first evidence that the war would last long and take a terrible toll in soldiers' lives.

Curtis's response
Lesson went very well indeed. Jon is an apt and courteous student. We covered the basics on research paper writing. I sent him some handouts that will get him started. We'll get together next week the same time for our second lesson.
