About Kindra

Hi! My name is Kindra, and I am a Neuroscience student at the University of Toronto with two years of tutoring experience and over four years of experience working with children and youth.

Throughout my experience as a tutor, mentor, and youth leader, I have developed a strong ability to connect with students, recognize their individual learning needs, and create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I have also worked with youth through the YMCA in Quebec, which strengthened my communication, leadership, patience, and ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds.

As a university student in a science-based program, I understand how important it is to have a strong foundation in math and effective problem-solving skills. I also understand that not every student learns in the same way. Sometimes a student does not need the material repeated—they need it explained differently. I enjoy finding the explanation that finally makes a concept click.

I am patient, encouraging, dependable, and committed to creating a positive learning environment. I want my students to feel supported rather than judged when they do not understand something. Along with helping students improve academically, I aim to build their confidence so they can become more comfortable solving problems independently.

Whether a student is struggling with math, preparing for an upcoming test, or simply wants additional practice and support, I am committed to meeting them where they are and helping them progress toward their goals.

My goal is to make math feel less overwhelming and help students truly understand the material instead of simply memorizing formulas. I use a patient, step-by-step teaching approach and adapt each lesson to the student’s learning style, pace, and areas of difficulty.

A typical lesson begins with a quick review of what the student is currently learning and any concepts they are struggling with. I then break the topic down into simple, manageable steps, work through examples together, and give the student opportunities to solve problems independently with support when needed. I also pay close attention to where mistakes are happening so we can strengthen the underlying skill and prevent the same confusion from coming up again.

Lessons can include homework support, test and quiz preparation, reviewing class material, practicing problem-solving strategies, strengthening foundational skills, or getting ahead on upcoming topics.

What sets me apart is my patience, encouragement, and ability to explain concepts in different ways until they make sense. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. My goal is not only to improve grades, but also to help students become more confident and independent when approaching math.

My lessons are designed for elementary and high school students who need extra support, want to improve their grades, prepare for assessments, or build a stronger understanding of the math they are learning in school. Each lesson is personalized to the individual student rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
