About Madeleine

I have been playing music all my life- starting out with cello and then piano and music theory, my musical knowledge is well rounded and complete. orchestras, choirs, chamber groups and solo playing has been the norm for me all my life and I am well equipped with knowledge and advice for general playing, as well as tuition. I have previously given piano lessons to my neighbor in preparation for his grade one exam. I currently play in the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra and have recently been on tour to Italy where we played in many beautiful cathedrals for local audiences.

About the lesson

I believe that technique is the foundation on which all great musicians build their masterpieces on, therefore each lesson will begin with a quick technical exercise to both warm up and solidify those foundations. I also believe that music should be enjoyed for it to be done well and so I will allow the student to study whichever piece they prefer (within reason) wherever possible to ensure the student is motivated to practice. The room I intend to use for practice has a piano so aural and theory exercises will help improve the student's musical ear and help them massively with any exams they may intend to take . The end of the lesson will be used to outline practice for the week and what I expect to be completed for the next lesson. This will be recorded in a notebook provided by the student that should be brought to each lesson and taken home to refer to when practicing. I am perfectly happy for parents to sit in on the lesson as it will help for them to understand what their child should be working on and to help discipline their practice from a young age.
