About Lateira
I am a high school science teacher with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science from UC San Diego and 9+ years of experience teaching science in urban, Title 1 high schools. I decided to become a high school science teacher for at least a decade to give back what I received as a student. I was a first-generation college student who was able to receive her B.S. and Ph.D because I had amazing teachers who challenged and supported me. I want to do the same for my students. I am sure that their are more students like myself who can be inspired to achieve in STEM if they have amazing teachers in their corner. I want to be a part of my students' success stories.

I am currently in my tenth year as a high school teacher. My teaching style is student-centered. I focus on building on what students already know, kinesthetic/hands-on experiences, real world experiences, and relatable examples to help students connect the content to their lives. These approaches have helped my students master difficult scientific content and concepts. My students have gone on to successfully major in engineering and science in college and my AP Physics 1 students pass the AP exam at rates higher than other schools in my area.
