  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

Most of my fluency comes from being immersed in the English language from a very young age. Growing up, English was a part of my daily life, and this early exposure naturally built my fluency. However, I must credit my college English professor for sparking my passion for deeper learning and inspiring me to pursue a teaching career. Their dedication and enthusiasm showed me how powerful language can be, both as a tool for communication and as a means of connecting with others.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

An emblematic representative of the English language's culture could be William Shakespeare. Although he is a historical figure, Shakespeare's influence on the English language and culture is profound and enduring. His works have shaped the development of the language, introducing new words, phrases, and expressions that are still in use today. Shakespeare's plays and sonnets reflect the richness of English culture, capturing universal themes, complex characters, and the nuances of human experience. His impact on literature, drama, and language makes him a timeless symbol of English-speaking culture.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

The phrase "once in a blue moon" refers to something that happens very rarely. It originates from the occurrence of a second full moon in a single calendar month, which happens roughly every 2.5 to 3 years. The use of the term "blue moon" to describe this phenomenon dates back to the 19th century, although the phrase "once in a blue moon" as we use it today became more popular in the 20th century. Interestingly, a literal blue-colored moon can occur under certain atmospheric conditions, such as after a volcanic eruption or forest fire, but this is even rarer than the second full moon in a month.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking English matters to me because it opens up a world of possibilities. English is a global language, and it serves as a bridge to new cultures, friendships, and opportunities. Whether it's forging new relationships, advancing in a career, or simply exploring the world, English provides access to countless experiences. It's not just a language; it's a key to unlocking potential in many areas of life.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

One of the main challenges in learning English, especially for non-native speakers, is navigating its irregular spelling and pronunciation. The numerous exceptions to the rules can be confusing and frustrating. However, consistent exposure to the language is key to overcoming these hurdles. Engaging with English through social media, TV shows, movies, books, and conversations helps internalize the language in a natural way. Additionally, practicing pronunciation and refining skills with an experienced teacher can significantly accelerate progress.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

In school, I used to struggle with learning a new language. The grammar rules and vocabulary felt overwhelming, and I often found myself frustrated. One day, our teacher created an immersive experience by taking us on a virtual 'trip' to a different country. We had to navigate everyday situations, like ordering food and asking for directions, entirely in the language we were learning. That experience completely changed my perspective. It made me realize that language learning is about communication and connection, not just memorizing rules. After that, I started enjoying the process and became much more confident in using the language.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

During a trip abroad, I was forced to rely on my language skills in real-life situations. From ordering food at local restaurants to asking for directions on the street, I quickly realized that textbook knowledge wasn't enough. I had to adapt to different accents, slang, and cultural nuances. One memorable moment was when I got lost in a small town and had to ask a local for help. The conversation was a bit challenging, but it boosted my confidence and made me more comfortable speaking the language in everyday situations. That trip made me realize that immersion is one of the best ways to truly improve language skills.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I believe what makes me a Superprof is not only my extensive experience but also my constant desire to improve and bring my best self to every class. I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where my students feel like they're among friends. Building trust and making students feel comfortable is essential for effective learning. I'm dedicated to helping each student succeed and grow, making the learning journey enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved.
