About Maria-Colleen

My name is Maria-Colleen, I am personally in recovery from traumatic experiences that left me bedridden and in chronic pain for years. I use these techniques to heal myself, and I absolutely love helping others feel well, and do the same no matter what their skill level, experience or background. I trained as a dancer since I was 5 years old, and it was my favorite form of expression. Losing connection with my body was emotionally and physically devastating. For years I had to focus on my nervous system to be calmer and regulate (I was having panic attacks every day for years) retrain my thought patterns, and process deeply embedded emotions that were stuck in my hips, abdomen, and back. I am a deep proponent of using somatic movement, yoga, dance, meditation/mindfulness and evening singing (doesn’t matter if you sound good or not!! It’s about the vibration!) to regulate your nervous system, feel your energy and body, and heal mental, emotional and physical trauma and promote well-being. In 2016 I graduated from an 8-month-long yoga program that also used singing (my second favorite form of expression) to connect to your body and inner world. Since then I have taught all over the USA and Latin America. I am certified in yoga and meditation. I love teaching both adults and kids. I love working with young people, as I was a teacher in Post Katrina New Orleans for many years with traumatized youth. I also love adults who think they are not good at yoga especially! It’s all about how we feel and relate to our bodies! Not about getting into all sorts of pretzel poses. I have been a student and teacher of dance for 35 years, and a student and proponent of transpersonal somatic psychology and healing for 25 years. It is my pleasure and privilege to be able to help guide you to better well-being, mental clarity, and physical health.

About the lesson

Welcome! I am so glad you are here! My name is Maria-Colleen and I am here offering myself as a mental emotional somatics instructor and coach! In my classes we will use a combination of breath work, mindfulness, nervous system regulation techniques, (yoga, meditation, and yes even singing and vocalization to promote mental, emotional, and physical well-being. I draw from vinyasa, hatha, yin, and restorative yoga styles, as well as qi gong, tai chi, and meditation techniques that aim at bringing you into the present moment, and developing the capacity to “be with” the challenging emotional and energetic charges inside your body. We are electromagnetic systems, and given the world we live in, most of us are out of balance and alignment. I’m also really interested in you as a person, and will listen if you need a place to express feelings, share emotions, ask for support, or just want to chat about your life.
