About Maria
I am currently a UBC student studying neuroscience and have just completed my first year in a STEM program. I moved from Saskatoon to Vancouver to pursue my education and am self-supporting while continuing my studies, which has strengthened my responsibility, time management, and dedication to my goals.
I have previous teaching experience through Discovery Math in Saskatoon, where I worked closely with younger students to help them understand math concepts and build confidence. I am patient, approachable, and enjoy working with students of different learning styles and abilities.
Being in a STEM program myself, I understand the school curriculum well and know how to explain concepts clearly and in a way that makes sense to students. I am passionate about helping students feel more confident in their abilities and proud of their progress.

I am a patient and supportive tutor with experience working with younger students through Discovery Math in Saskatoon, where I helped teach and guide students in developing strong math skills and confidence. As a UBC science student in a STEM program, I am very familiar with current school math curricula and understand the challenges students face in elementary and high school math.
My teaching style focuses on breaking problems down step-by-step and making sure students truly understand the concepts rather than just memorizing procedures. A typical lesson includes reviewing homework, practicing similar problems together, and building problem-solving strategies that students can use independently. I adapt my teaching to each student’s level and learning style, and I aim to create a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions.
My lessons are suitable for elementary and high school students who want to improve their understanding, build confidence, prepare for tests, or strengthen foundational math skills.
