About Frank

I have been learning Latin for over 10 years, in a range of environments. I started 1-to-1 with my father at home, was a Classics scholar at a boarding school for three years, then did my A-Level at a state Sixth Form.

Studying Latin has been a privilege and a joy. It has vastly improved my English, and made learning a second language--Spanish--a breeze.

In secondary school, I ran an informal Classics Clinic, where I helped fellow students with their Latin homework. I also tutored my sister through her Latin GCSE (she got a 9--though I tactfully refrain from taking all the credit!).

I myself achieved a 9 in Latin GCSE and an A* at A Level.

About the lesson

I aim to dismantle all those myths about studying Latin (boring, pointless, only for posh people) and inspire a love for the subject in my students. I believe that there is fun to be had in every aspect of language-learning--even the grammar tables.

I also reject the idea that some people just aren't good at Latin. Chances are they weren't taught the basics well, and everything since then has been confusing.

It is my job to clarify things. My approach to teaching is flexible and student-based. If a student is preparing for an exam, I will adapt my lessons according to the board's requirements.

I offer a free introductory lesson, during which I gauge the student's strengths, weaknesses, and preferred learning methods. From then on, lessons are £18/hour and can be as frequent as the student wishes. I am based in Shepherd's Bush, London, and offer lessons online or in-person.
