About Dennis

I know what it is like to struggle academically. I came to the UK from Sri Lanka at the age of 10 and entered Year 5 without being able to speak English. I had to adapt quickly, and within a short period I passed the entrance exam to attend a grammar school for secondary school.

Since then, I have consistently achieved the highest grades available while still maintaining a balanced life rather than spending all day studying. I went on to achieve 3 A*s at A-level in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology before studying Computer Science at the University of Manchester, a Russell Group university and one of the leading universities internationally for Computer Science.

Outside academics, I am also very active and enjoy powerlifting, bodybuilding and swimming. I believe students perform best when they learn efficiently, understand concepts properly and still have time for other parts of life.

My own experience is a big reason I want to teach. I understand that struggling with a subject does not mean a student lacks ability. Sometimes they simply need the right explanation, enough practice and the confidence to keep going. I want to help students become more confident, study more effectively and achieve grades they may not initially think are possible.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on understanding Chemistry rather than simply memorising facts, equations and methods. I break difficult concepts down step by step and adapt my explanations to the individual student.

We can focus on specific areas you are struggling with, work through calculations, exam-style questions and past papers, or build towards a particular target grade. I also place a strong emphasis on problem-solving and exam technique, helping students understand not only what the correct answer is, but why it is correct and how to approach similar questions independently.

Whether you are trying to catch up or aiming for the highest grades, lessons will be tailored to your ability, pace and goals.
