About Jimmie
Today if you fly in a modern commercial jet aircraft or a business class jet, there is a fair chance that some software I authored is on-board. This includes Flight Management Systems on Falcon 900 and Gulfstream business jets; Boeing 747 on-board maintenance computer; 757/767 EFIS/EICAS; Airbus 320/340 FMS; Airbus 400 communications system; Cessna Mustang and Eclipse 500 FADEC (full authority engine controller); Embraer flap/slat activation system on some business jets.
I taught mainframe computer maintenance in the Air force which enabled soldiers to maintain the Burroughs BUIC III and IBM 360/75J computer systems. I also instructed software engineers on the flight management software in a company environment which enabled them to make upgrades to the software as needed.

I hold a BSEE from University of Missouri (Rolla, Mo) and specialized in realtime embedded. I am a retired software engineer with over 40 years of experience. During the last 25 years I focused on real time embedded aviation applications. The code of choice is normally selected by the company and has usually been 'C' or occasionally 'C++'. C code is generally simpler and easier to understand which is a plus for any future modifications that might be required and for test engineers who are tasked with exercising all code paths.
I am now retired and look forward to passing lessons gained from experience to the future software engineers. I prefer to do a lot of hands on with the tools hosted on your own laptop with some textbook lectures followed by code exercises to drive home the point.
Although your future may be high stress in safety critical software, learning should be relaxed and friendly.
