About Soren
Hi! I’m Soren, a graduate of Northwestern University with a major in Vocal Performance and Arts Administration. I’m classically trained in vocal performance and have extensive experience across a wide range of genres, including classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, songwriting, and contemporary styles.
I’ve had the opportunity to perform with leading organizations such as the Los Angeles Opera and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, appearing at world-renowned venues like the Hollywood Bowl, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and a solo at Walt Disney Concert Hall. My work has been recognized with honors including the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Merit Award, semifinalist in the Hal Leonard Vocal Competition, and Top 40 Finalist for the American Songbook Academy.
At Northwestern, I’ve performed in productions such as The Magic Flute, Little Shop of Horrors, Beethoven's Mass in C, Once, SHIMMER, and 35MM. As Music Director of my a cappella group, THUNK, I’ve gained valuable experience in musical leadership and ensemble coaching.

I believe technique should always serve expression, not the other way around, so my lessons blend solid vocal fundamentals, breath support, tone placement, healthy technique, with real room for a student's own artistic voice. I trained classically at Northwestern University (B.M. in Vocal Performance) and studied further at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, but my own performing background spans opera, musical theater, and contemporary music, so I try to build students a technical foundation flexible enough to support whatever style they actually love singing.
A typical lesson starts with a short warm-up tailored to whatever the student needs that day, sometimes range work, sometimes just easing into the voice, and then moves into repertoire, working phrase by phrase and connecting the technical stuff back to storytelling rather than treating it as separate from the performance. I like ending on a full run-through so students walk away feeling the progress they made, not just a list of corrections.
I'm an active performer myself, so a lot of what I teach comes from real stage experience rather than just theory. I've also spent time teaching music to neurodiverse and underserved kids, which has made me a more patient and adaptable teacher, and I've worked as a music director for a collegiate vocal group, so I'm just as comfortable with harmony and ensemble singing as I am with solo technique.
I work with all levels, complete beginners through advanced singers, kids through adults, whether someone's prepping for an audition, building confidence for the first time, or just wanting to sing more freely in a style they already care about. I also teach beginner piano for students who want to build some keyboard foundation alongside their voice work.
