About Simon

I have been very fortunate to attend a solid drama school, which gave me a sound foundation in stagecraft, and then study with one of Sanford Meisner's students, who nurtured an understanding of the importance of connection, to both emotions and other actors, in performance. Everyone can give the audience a performance has the capacity to be unique, moving and delightful. I find talking about acting and exploring the work with other actors very exciting, it's a guaranteed mood changer for me, as I'm always energised and vibrant afterwards!

About the lesson

My approach is largely based on the techniques of Sanford Meisner, whose philosophy had a very practical application and allows the actor to do their best work in any conditions, and ultimately draw out the best performances from those around them. I'm happy to work on anything you'd be passionate or excited about working on, whether it's something you've not worked on before, deepening something you're already familiar with or something you want to create! Lessons can be from 30 minutes to two hours depending on what you need, and would probably be best for 16+.

I am a coordinator of the University of Exeter's popular employability scheme, the Career Mentor Scheme. Simon has been a volunteer mentor with us since 2012 and has helped many students and graduates with their career goals and aspirations. He provides 1-1 bespoke insight and guidance into their chosen career for a 6-month period. He helps to develop personal and professional competencies, build a competitive CV, advises on accessing relevant work experience and how to build professional networks. I would recommend Simon as he has a wealth of experience and is dedicated to helping students and graduates get the best start to their career and is a really valued mentor.

Overall, Simon was great. He offered excellent advice and tips for the industry. He was friendly but most importantly, treated me as though I was a professional despite being an amateur and that made me work harder, work smarter and truly developed my skills as an artist.
