About Dr Gunasegaran
Dr. R. Gunasegaran, MSc., PhD., Postdoctoral Fellow (University of Valencia, Spain)
As an esteemed Professor of Chemistry with a four-decade legacy of teaching and mentorship, I have been instrumental in guiding numerous M.Phil. and Ph.D. scholars to academic and research excellence. My scholarly contributions are evident in over 76 research papers published in internationally recognized journals, including 'Phytochemistry' in the UK and 'Nature' in the US.

My teaching methods are deeply rooted in fostering critical thinking and encouraging a conceptual understanding of chemistry. I use a variety of techniques including:
Interactive Lectures: Employing the Socratic method to engage students in dialogue, encouraging them to question and delve deeper into the subject matter.
Problem-Based Learning (PBL): Assigning real-world problems that require students to research, collaborate, and apply their knowledge to find solutions.
Flipped Classroom Models: Providing materials for self-study beforehand, such as recorded lectures or readings, so that classroom time is dedicated to discussion and application of concepts.
Technology Integration: Using software and simulations to visualize complex molecular structures and reactions that are hard to grasp from textbooks alone.
Usual Structure of a Class:
A typical class is structured to balance theory and practice:
Introduction (5-10 minutes): A brief overview of the day's topic, linking it to previous knowledge and outlining the objectives.
Main Lecture/Discussion (30-40 minutes): Core content delivery interspersed with Q&A sessions to ensure understanding and engagement.
Hands-On Activity or Demonstration (10-15 minutes): Experiments or interactive activities that illustrate the lecture's key points.
Conclusion (5 minutes): Summarizing the key takeaways and setting up the context for the next class.
