About Matthew

My stage credits as an actor range from national and international theatre tours, to seasons at Perth Theatre, Birmingham Rep and the West End. On TV my recent work includes appearances in The Crown, Nolly, Call the Midwife and The Marlow Murder Club. My film credits include Bridget Jones's Diary, V for Vendetta and Men In Black: International. I have tutored acting students in LAMDA and Trinity exams since 2004 in Acting, Musical Theatre, Shakespeare, Public Speaking and Poetry & Prose syllabuses. I have given workshops for the NYT, and have working relationships with TV and theatre casting directors.

About the lesson

Great acting is an invisible skill - an audience can sense it happening but they can't tell exactly how it's done. That's where I come in. Whatever stage you're at: - taking introductory LAMDA exams (age 6 and above) - auditioning for drama school - a professional submitting a self-tape to a TV casting director - or just a keen amateur wanting to polish up your technique, I create classes tailored to your ability, designed to ensure you feel safe, have fun, and can realise your full potential. We begin by finding out about you - your experience, interests and what you want to achieve. I'll listen to you read something to gauge your style and strengths. We then work on specific pieces using games and exercises to support your physical and vocal technique, unlock your creativity and build compelling characters. I have coached hundreds of students to LAMDA and Trinity Gold Medal Distinctions, coached pupils into the NYT and major drama schools, and several are now working in theatre and TV.

Stuart is a committed learner and quick to incorporate direction to his performances. For a mature student with no previous training I was really impressed with his bravery, the specificity of his choices and his connection to the text. The next stage is to work on vocal technique, physical presence and pacing to maximise his impact on stage.
