About Sitar
Mathematics is a subject that rewards curiosity, perseverance, and strategic thinking. As an AIME qualifier and AMC 10 Distinguished Honor Roll recipient, I bring both personal experience and proven success in high-level mathematics. My passion lies not only in solving complex problems but also in teaching others how to approach math with confidence.
With years of experience working with middle schoolers, I specialize in helping students excel in competition math as well as in their school coursework, from Prealgebra to Calculus. My teaching philosophy is centered around building a strong conceptual foundation. Instead of relying on rote memorization, I guide students to understand the underlying principles behind mathematical concepts. This approach allows them to tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence, whether on a competition stage or in a classroom setting.
I emphasize problem-solving strategies such as pattern recognition, logical deduction, and efficient test-taking techniques, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed. Through interactive discussions and structured guidance, I ensure that each student develops not only technical skills but also mathematical intuition.
A typical lesson with me is structured, engaging, and tailored to the student’s needs. I begin with a warm-up to reinforce previous concepts and build mental agility. Next, I introduce new material in a way that is both clear and thought-provoking, encouraging students to actively participate in the learning process. Guided practice follows, where I demonstrate multiple problem-solving approaches before allowing students to tackle problems independently.
Each session concludes with a review of key takeaways, a challenge problem, and personalized recommendations for further practice. This structured yet adaptable approach ensures consistent progress and deep understanding.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my firsthand experience with competition math, my ability to simplify complex topics, and my commitment to each student’s growth. I understand the challenges that come with high-level math and know how to break down difficult problems into manageable steps. My lessons are designed for students preparing for competitions such as the AMC 8, AMC 10, MathCounts, and AIME, as well as for those looking to strengthen their school math skills.
Mathematics can be challenging, but with the right guidance and mindset, every student can excel. My goal is to make math an exciting journey—one that builds confidence, sharpens thinking, and fosters a love for problem-solving. If you're ready to take your math skills to the next level, I am here to support and guide you every step of the way.

As a tutor with a strong competition math background, my approach focuses on building problem-solving skills, mathematical intuition, and deep conceptual understanding. I prioritize helping students understand the "why" behind mathematical concepts before applying them. This conceptual foundation ensures that they can tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. My teaching emphasizes problem-solving strategies such as pattern recognition, casework, and number sense, which are crucial for competition math. Additionally, I use Socratic questioning to guide students toward discovering insights on their own rather than simply providing solutions. My approach is highly personalized, adapting to each student’s strengths and weaknesses to target their specific areas for improvement. For competition students, I also focus on test-taking strategies, time management, and mental math tricks to enhance their efficiency during timed exams.
A typical lesson begins with a warm-up exercise to review past material through a challenging problem or mental math drill. This helps students stay sharp and build a strong mathematical foundation. Next, I introduce a new concept or strategy, engaging students with interactive questioning and real-world applications when relevant. I then guide students through practice problems, starting with fundamental examples before gradually increasing difficulty. During this phase, I encourage discussion about multiple approaches to solving problems, helping students develop flexibility in their thinking. After guided practice, students attempt competition-style or advanced problems independently, where I provide hints as needed to encourage logical reasoning. Finally, the lesson wraps up with a review of key takeaways, followed by a challenge problem or homework assignment to reinforce learning and preview the next topic.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my deep experience in competition math. As an AIME qualifier, Mathcounts State Round qualifier, and AMC 10 Distinguished Honor Roll recipient, I have firsthand knowledge of the challenges students face in high-level math competitions. My teaching style is engaging and interactive, emphasizing discussion and creativity over rote memorization. I also bridge the gap between school math and competition math, helping students excel both in their coursework and in problem-solving contests. Since I primarily teach middle schoolers, I understand how to make advanced concepts accessible and engaging for younger students, ensuring that they develop a genuine interest in mathematics.
My lessons are designed for students at various levels, including those preparing for competition math exams such as AMC 8, AMC 10, MathCounts, and AIME. I also work with middle school students who need support in school mathematics, covering topics from Prealgebra to Calculus. Additionally, I cater to advanced learners who seek to go beyond their grade level in mathematics. By tailoring lessons to each student’s goals, I help them build confidence, develop strong problem-solving skills, and achieve success in both school and competition settings.
