About Jamie
My name is Jamie Stenhouse, I live and work in Helston Cornwall. I studied BA (hons) Drawing Falmouth University 2012-2015 and later The Drawing Year Royal Drawing School London 2016-2017. My ambition is to teach in the adult education sector and share the inspiration and knowledge, which was given to me. I have a passion for supporting and reassuring others of their potential and abilities through art, wellbeing and raising confidence. Furthermore, I enjoy personal mentorship and enabling others to achieve. I initially studied a BTEC Diploma in Graphic Design, and within these two years I volunteered in the life-room; setting up easels, desks and generally tidied up after local GCSE students with learning difficulties. Later I studied an Access Course in Fine Art before moving to Falmouth. At university, I volunteered and completed a work experience module on ‘Foundation’ course for A-level students, which lasted two weeks. I facilitated two drawing-workshops and shadowed John Howard (head of print), who mentored students on a personal level. I also volunteered on Saturday workshops with Ashley Hold (head of life-drawing), who organised life classes for local GCSE students. After graduating I became a volunteer at Truro cathedral for 6 months, and exhibited a show of working drawings for Truro arts festival. In 2016-2017 I received a scholarship with The Prince's Trust and moved to London. My time was spent shadowing the painters Ann Dowker, Michael Broughton and Thomas Newbolt, who were extremely encouraging and Ms Dowker in particular advised me to do some teaching. I look forward to sharing what knowledge and experience I have with like-minded people from all backgrounds and learning difficulties.

My techniques include: observational drawing and its relationship to oil painting, fine art history, psychology and personal guidance. Lessons could last for as long you would like, typically a morning or afternoon (2-3 hours). My qualifications include: Post-Graduate Certificate Royal Drawing School, First Class Degree BA (hons) Drawing Falmouth University, Access to Fine Art Certificate UCA, BTEC Diploma Graphic Design certificate. In regards to my experience, I have spent the last 6 years practising in my studio at home and exhibiting works with local artists. I have been taught by the artists Ann Dowker, Michael Broughton and Jon Howard. I have experience working from pictures in The National Gallery, British Museum and Courtauld Institute. Additionally, I have experience working with Foundation Students at Falmouth University, and completed An Artist residency Truro Cathedral. My lessons are designed to support the well-being of young and mature adults of any level, who desire to practise their art to ultimately be fulfilled, and be in the world a little.
