About Rachel
I am Rachel Gering, a passionate painter based in Portland, OR, celebrated for my evocative explorations of travel and memory. Graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Painting from Willamette University | PNCA in 2022, my artistic journey has been marked by a lifelong fascination with the interplay between science and art. From a young age, I found solace in painting, which has become a vital means of self-expression and healing, especially following a traumatic brain injury. My work has been recognized nationally, earning me 3rd Place Winner for Excellence in Art from Blue Koi Gallery in 2024, underscoring my talent and dedication to my craft. I employ a versatile array of materials, including oil, acrylics, watercolor, and pastels, to bring my visions to life. Through art, I travel to places I dream of visiting and capture the essence of places I have explored. My artistic philosophy centers on the therapeutic power of art and its ability to connect disparate moments of life through a visual narrative. My work has been featured in several notable exhibitions, including the Landscape Exhibition and Competition 2024 at Blue Koi Gallery, the Miniatures Juried Show 2023 at the Cannon Beach Arts Association and Gallery, and the Water Media Juried Show 2023 at the Oregon Society of Artists in Portland, OR. In addition to my creative endeavors, I share my passion for art as a part-time art educator at One River School of Art and Design teaching both teen and adult classes. I also run a YouTube channel providing free art education to the general public, guiding and inspiring aspiring artists on their creative journeys.

My Teaching Approach
As a tutor, I create a supportive and inspiring environment where students feel confident exploring their creativity. My teaching methods are hands-on and tailored to the individual needs and goals of each student. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced artist, I focus on building strong foundational skills while encouraging personal expression.
Typical Lesson Plan
A typical lesson begins with a brief discussion of goals for the session, followed by a demonstration of techniques tailored to the medium we’re working with. Students then work on their projects, with personalized guidance and constructive feedback provided throughout. Lessons often include discussions on composition, color theory, and developing a personal artistic voice.

As an award-winning BFA graduate and gallery-represented artist specializing in classical landscape painting, I bring both technical expertise and real-world art experience to my lessons.
