About Andrew
I’ve worked as a professional freelance musician since graduating from the RNCM in 2014. Over the past decade, I’ve toured the UK multiple times, performing at prestigious venues including The Jazz Café (London), The Glasshouse (Gateshead), Strange Brew (Bristol). Closer to home, I’ve appeared at Albert Hall, Band on the Wall, Manchester Cathedral, and regularly perform around Peter Street at Blues Kitchen, Albert’s Schloss, and Revolución de Cuba.
Gigging an average of four times a week for over ten years has given me experience across a wide range of styles from pop, rock, and jazz to Latin, folk, and electronic/dance.
Alongside session work, I stay connected to my creative roots through original music projects. As well as helping to run a monthly grassroots music night in Manchester, which has hosted over 100 events and continues to strengthen the city’s vibrant musical community.

I help students build a solid foundation and develop their own voice on the bass. Lessons focus on methodically learning the fingerboard, reading and transcribing music, exploring tone, and improving improvisation. Each 1-hour lesson is tailored to your goals and experience level.
I’ve taught group sessions at the RNCM and private one-to-one lessons, working with students aged 11–50+ across all styles and abilities. My real-world experience as a performing musician shapes my teaching; blending practical skills, industry insight, and a personalised approach that helps every student grow in confidence, musicianship, and creativity.

Deadly! Good easy to understand comments and suggestions to improve.highly recommended.
Deadly! Very good experience. Andrew is very knowledgeable and was able to teach me what I wanted to learn quickly, whilst adapting to my particular learning style which is quite involved. I ask a lot of questions!
I had already played for nearly 30 years and had wanted to work on my technique and find the direction to go in to learn walking bass and soloing over jazz sequences. We did this in a short space of time on a consultation type basis and I can now plan my learning. When I've got this under my fingers and I'm happy with my progress, I will come back and learn another part of the technique that I want to concentrate on!Deadly! Andy is a really good teacher as well as a fantastic bassist. He's so knowledgeable, and teaches everything from a really solid background as a working musician. He demistifies theory, teaches with loads of good examples and we spend most of the lessons playing and I like learning that way. He's the most chilled yet experienced teacher I've ever had and my playing and general understanding of music has improved so much through his lessons. I can't reccommend him enough and think he'd be great to teach anyone interested in learning bass.

Andrew was fantastic in the short course we had. I went to him to check my technique as I've been playing for nearly 30 years and you don't always know what you need to do after that time!
I have been concentrating on learning walking bass and soloing myself so I went to Andrew to point me in the right direction as I didn't really know where I was looking!
He watched me play, helped me create a practice routine to sort my left hand fingering out (wandering pinky) and concentrate on using the open strings and learning the notes as opposed to relying on patterns. I've been able to plan out my next six months.
It's a good skill for a teacher to be able to take on someone who has almost three decades of gigs, practices, recordings and baked in habits and help pull that apart and isolate the issue. I would recommend and will do a short session program again when I want to learn a new thing!Andy is a knowledgeable and skilled professional bassist who is happy to tailor his lessons to you. I've been playing for years, but always "monkey see, monkey do", learning tabs and never truly understanding why I was playing the notes I was. He created exercises for me that managed to teach me theory by stealth. Highly recommended.
Andrew is a great player and a great teacher. I started lessons with him as I wanted some help getting prepared for university, and with his help I have been excelling in my classes, would highly recommend him to anyone from beginners to advanced players.
Andy is an awesome and very innovative Bass Player, who has mastered many different styles on both electric and upright bass. he is also great at teaching the knowledge and skills he has acquired. I feel whatever your goals and styles you wish to master Andy can guide you there. from Theory and technique to more complex concepts.
Andrew helped me out immensely when i began learning bass guitar. He is a brilliant professional bassist, and has been gigging as living for years, but he can relate to all students and really helped me understand the basics comprehensively. He always seemed to be on my level and i enjoyed going round to his home studio.
He can also teach advanced jazz improvising, effects and genre differences. Although i didn't get to that stage, He demonstrated little bits whenever i asked and was always keen to talk about the music! I really enjoyed learning with him and would definitely recommend him!View more recommendations
