About Sameera

Hello! I am Sameera Maruvada and I am a cartoonist, writer, and storyteller from India. I began my creative journey 11 years ago by sharing art tutorials on YouTube.

My satirical comics on gender and social commentary, published under the name Saltandsambar, have gained millions of views online and got me recognition from platforms such as the TEDx, The Hindu, The Indian Express, Sakshi, TV5 News, and Eenadu. My work on gender justice has been exhibited in the Indian Institute of Cartoonists, Bengaluru.

Beyond my work as a cartoonist and writer, I am known for making comics accessible and enjoyable for beginners. I have been invited as a guest at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore to teach comics and I am a recurring guest teacher who has been conducting comic summer camps at the Novotel.

About the lesson

Every child has a story to tell. My goal is to help them discover their unique voice through comics, storytelling, and drawing—not by teaching them to copy, but by encouraging them to think creatively and express their ideas with confidence.

My classes are project-based and highly interactive. Rather than focusing only on drawing techniques, I guide students through the entire creative process: generating ideas, building memorable characters, writing engaging stories, designing comic panels, and bringing their stories to life. Along the way, they also learn observation, visual storytelling, creative problem-solving, and communication skills.

A typical one-hour class includes a fun warm-up activity, a new concept or storytelling technique, guided demonstrations, hands-on drawing exercises, and personalised feedback. Every lesson builds towards creating original comics that students are proud to share.

What makes my teaching unique is that I combine over seven years of experience as a professional cartoonist and educator with a structured curriculum designed specifically for children. My students don't just learn to draw—they learn to think like storytellers. I have been featured on TEDx, The Hindu, and The Indian Express, and I have also been invited as a guest faculty member at IIM Bangalore. My work on gender justice has also been exhibited in the prestigious Indian Institute of Cartoonists, Bengaluru.

My classes are best suited for children aged 7–13 who love drawing, reading, storytelling, or who like to express their thoughts or self reflect. I also help children make comics on their everyday life through the art of comic journaling. Whether your child is a complete beginner or already enjoys making comics, I adapt each lesson to their age, interests, and pace, ensuring they feel challenged, supported, and inspired.
