About ALFRED

Hello my name is Alfred. I am from London (UK). I have over 9 years of EFL experience since 2007. I have taught offline and online classes. I have taught children, teenagers and adults in Italy, Tanzania and the UK. From late 2016 to March 2020, I worked as an EFL teacher on a full-time basis. During that time, I have undertaken over 400 hours of 1-to-1 teaching. I taught offline face-to-face classes in spring and summer schools in Hampshire and Sussex (UK) during spring 2023, summer 2023, spring 2024, summer 2024 and summer 2025. These were temporary teaching placements. Experienced in the classroom, I use the techniques I have established there, in the different and unique context of 1-to-1 teaching. 1-to-1 teaching often moves at a speed dictated by the student rather than having to follow a structure set by an institution or by the teacher. Materials may be sourced or found together with the teacher. Students in 1-to-1 lessons are usually highly motivated. Both teacher and student get a better opportunity to interact with each other and learn from each other. There is an opportunity to establish a clear set of objectives for the student and for the teacher to know exactly what the student wants from the class. At the same time, it is possible to use techniques taken from the classroom such as role plays and games with the individual student and this is an aspect of my teaching style. My objective is always to make the lessons as interesting as possible, responding to the needs of individual students. I use coursebooks, role plays, grammar websites and multimedia such as: YouTube film clips, music and Google images. For role plays I often use, ‘Role Plays for Today’ by Jason Anderson, who taught me when I was training. The role plays cover various situations such as: ordering food in a restaurant, buying clothes, checking into a hotel, going to the doctors, checking in for a flight, buying train tickets and many other situations. Again, their use would be designed around individual student requirements. I highly recommend using coursebooks. Coursebooks can be extremely useful in terms of: direction, logic, organisation, structure and a syllabus. In respect of my work to date, I would highlight my experience in preparing students for the Trinity College London Graded Examinations in Spoken English exams Grades 2-9, University of Cambridge English exams: Starters, Movers, Flyers, A2 Key, B1 Preliminary, B2 First and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). I also have experience in supervising students doing sports and going on excursions. I encourage students to do the Cambridge English exams. The Cambridge English exams are globally recognised by tens of thousands of: schools, universities, companies, organisations, governments in over 100 countries. University : - BATH SPA UNIVERSITY - FILM AND SCREEN STUDIES AND MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS [SECOND CLASS (LOWER DIVISION)] Other Qualifications : GA Level 5 Award in Supporting Learners to Prepare for an English Language Examination (IELTS) GA Level 5 Award in Teaching Business English GA Level 3 Award in Teaching Business English Cambridge Assessment English Teaching English Online. Certificate Trinity College London Level 5 Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Level 5 Cert TESOL). CACHE Level 3 certificate in supporting Teaching and Learning in schools ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) Certificate.

I have worked with Alfred since January 2017. He is a hard-working, organised, enthusiastic and motivated teacher, and is able to establish a very good rapport with his students. Alfred uses a wide variety of teaching methods and materials, and his lessons are more student- centred. He would never take on any commitment that he could not fulfil. Therefore, I can recommend him for an English Language teaching post.
