About Stephen
I studied Mathematics at degree level then Applied Optical Physics at postgraduate level and have worked in various industries including customer service, banking and electrical installation and testing.
I qualified as a teacher at Oxford University and have taught and tutored in the state and private sectors in the UK, Australia, China, Spain and Ecuador.

Several elements underlie my teaching. First and foremost I ensure that my teaching is at an appropriate level for the student(s), it must be accessible and useful while also being challenging and enabling the student to make good progress. Secondly I utilise a variety of teaching methods/activities to cater to the needs of the individual student(s) and use those which are most appropriate for the material being covered.
Most importantly I communicate effectively with my student(s). I listen and monitor what needs to be covered, constantly check on understanding, address application of knowledge and look for misconceptions. I draw on my experience within teaching and from outside to explain concepts clearly, breaking them down and linking them to prior knowledge.
