About Sophie
I am a Medical Physicist with > 13 years teaching at undergraduate, post-graduate and primary/secondary level.
I have experience working with all ability levels. I have successfully tutored two students through GSCEs in different circumstances; securing a 5 for a student borderline pass student and 9s in Maths and Physics for a student hoping to study science at A-level.
I have experience teaching specific maths and physics modules to adults, university and A-level students to support other studies such as maths/statistics for psychology and social sciences.
I have tutored 3 children in KS1/2 (Years 1, 4 and 6) in science and maths.

I tailor my teaching to the age and style required by the student.
For younger students I have a very hands on approach with kinaesthetic learning and problem solving to help find the method and technique that the child can understand. I incorporate a mix of games, puzzles, practice questions to help master mathematical techniques. I can help children to catch-up, provide on-going support for in-school learning or support parents in home-educating their children.
For older students I can quickly assess any areas which are causing problems for progress and address these with different methods to help increase understanding before moving onto new topics. I will work with you to work out how best you learn and tailor your sessions to maximise what you want to achieve in them. I can provide catch-up tutoring, ongoing support alongside school, or provide home-education tutoring. I can teach, or support preparation and revision for public exams for all exam boards.

Deadly! Sophie managed to engage the attention of my 9 year old son and left him feeling positive about his maths session. For a boy that has low confidence in maths and usually tries to avoid it that is a great achievement and I’m very pleased.
