About Amanda
I started my studio over twenty years ago, with the philosophy that to really teach someone you must get to know them. I do not want to teach my students to draw and paint like me. I want to teach them to draw and paint like they were meant draw and paint. Each student is an individual and they should create in a way that makes them feel good. I feel like my role as a teacher is, more like a creative guide. I helping students find there voice. I guide them in their creative journey. My curriculum is designed to build self-esteem through the creative process, using fine art as the medium. I offer individual instruction within a class setting for children and adults.
Years ago I earned an associates degree in fine art from Buck Count Community College and then transferred to the college of New Jersey where I earned a bachelors degree in graphic design and minored in illustration. Currently I write and illustrate children's books and I have been teaching fine art for over 20 years. I have spent a life time playing in ART. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work in many styles of art, from very crisp graphic design to soft impressionistic styles. My moods change and so does my style. Because I can adapt I can teach in many ways.

On my students first day, I assess where they are right now with their drawing. We talk about where they would like to go with their art. What does their journey look like to them. If a student is a beginner than we start with some basic shading and learning about the tools. There are activities that will help with the creative process. And they also build confidence. It never hurts to have a good foundation. For a more advanced student we might skip ahead and start in a more advanced medium. I listen to my student and help them get to where they want to go.
