About Benjamin

Hello! I'm Ben. I'm a self-trained artist with 7+ years of experience in drawing and painting(non-professionally). I first began teaching painting, at a paint bar, back in 2013. One thing I loved about teaching there, was taking an absolute beginner, who WANTS to learn, and showing them that with a little bit of dedication, direction, and some imagination was better than having all the "artistic talent" in the world. Once that veil of "mysterious artistic talent" was lifted, they became more confident. I believe anyone can become an artist or take on the discipline(ah scary!), if they have dedication, direction, and imagination.

My philosophy is to have fun. If you're having fun doing the thing, it feels good, you'll want to do it more and that equals more learning. Brilliant. Fundamentals of drawing, to put it bluntly, is dry and not fun. It can be difficult to learn because it all seems so academic and stuffy. And I believe that is where beginners quit before they've even started. The frustrated beginner writes themselves off as "not being talented enough" all over something that could have been addressed early on. My goal is to deliver to you, the beginner, a set of fun easy to follow exercises that will keep things fresh and light hearted and ultimately keep you going for the long haul (hopefully)!. I want to help you go from drawing stick figures to gaining the confidence to paint or draw whatever YOU desire.

Drawing lessons offered by Benjamin are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Gorham. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
