About Guerda

I am Guerda. I am a licensed and registered occupational therapist and also a passionate visual artist. I had the opportunity to take some college classes but I am a true self taught artist and I have been painting since I was 9 years of age. I have been experiencing with different media and different forms of art including but not limited to acrylic, oil, water-based oil, water color, pastel..etc. I have decided to teach art because I realized teaching is also learning. That exchange between student and teacher with the same passion can encourage personal growth; it can be enriching and fulfilling for both. Here I am, ready and willing to share my knowledge of art and hoping we can grow together.

I have been painting since I was 9 years old. At the age of 12, I took art classes in my homeland, Haiti, at the prestigious centre d'art Haitien. When I moved to the USA in the 90s, I took art classes at Kingsborough Community College where I earned 2 awards for my art work, The Presidential Art Awards and The Art Gallery Award. I also attended Long Island University where I took art classes. Although I majored and earned my masters of Science in Biology and in Occupational Therapy (applied science), I have also considered the combination of art and Sciences as a strong pillar for my art. In my line of work as an artist, I try to touch people in a therapeutic way by bringing out humain deep emotions in the most simplistic fashion. My subjects are captivated from our daily life and from within. The deep thoughts that we can all relate to, are expressed in my art.

About the lesson

Students are generally presented with a simple model and allowed to express self. Direct instructions and or critical feedback are then provided based on the level of skills displayed by students.
