About Justin

I have a passion for making art and live to share.this with others who feel the same way. I earned my MFA in fine arts painting in 2007. Also in 2007, I travelled to Florence Italy to take an art restoration seminar at SACI under the instruction of Roberta Lapucci.

I taught at Kendall college of art and design as an adjunct professor for 3 years. While I very much enjoyed helping students improve their technical and critical thinking skills as it applies to art making and art theory, I always felt conflicted in regards to the relatively high cost of tuition as it paired with the relatively low chances of gainful employment for my fine arts students. I have therefore, felt that teaching outside of structured academia to students who want to learn to do art that they truly enjoy and value is perhaps a better fit. In addition to painting, I have begun work as a Faux Bois Sculptor. This is a process of making false wood shapes and textures out of concrete. Sharing art with people and methods for creating their work more efficiently and effectively is particularly rewarding... as both you and the student can literally SEE the progress made.

I encourage visitors to this page to interact and leave comments. I will respond. It is my intent for this site to feel like an ongoing digital show where visitors can meet and converse with the artist.

It began as a tuition stipend when in was a graduate assistant in the drawing and foundation arts department at Kendall college of art and design. I very much enjoyed the work and continued on as an adjunct professor.

Spoken Form was a recent event at the Metacollective gallery in Lansing MI. It combined spoken poetry and prose with an open life drawing session available to all attendees. I recently began teaching a life drawing class of my own at the Cedar Street art Collective in Lansing and I very much enjoyed the event put on by Metacollective and would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy drawing, poetry or just wandering about watching others draw and eating some good food.

Details

Depends on the class size, duration and travel. If arrangements can be made for many students to meet at my studio location... the price per hour of instruction can be much lower than if I were to travel to meet a few or single student at their location.
